0% chance of rain in Fremont in January usually means “extra cold”, so Thursday’s session will be a TEST. What are you talking about Larry? Well, many of you have signed up for the Snelling Road Race. Registration opened last night and some fields are full! One of my worst racing experiences came at Snelling. 2001 and I was pre-registered so I was committed. Turns out to be 40 degrees with a steady rain. 63 miles later I was the last finisher in the M35 field(10th!) and somehow made it to my car. Hypothermic with uncontrollable shakes, my buddies stuck me in the warm car, striped me down, and changed my clothes for me (my hands were useless).
Relatively speaking, tomorrow night will be NOTHING compared to what some competitors are training in. But, it will be a test for you to dress appropriately for our team ride.
pre- 6:15 sign-in and socialize
warm-up on course until 6:30 (for those that are late)
1st Thursday of the month ROAD RIDE! Destination – Out to the top of the bridge and back
How we do it:
a) together on Cherry, north to Central,
b) effort #1 – coordinated and fast paceline
c) re-group at Thorton;
d) effort #2 – coordinated and fast paceline to the top of the bridge
e) fast riders go over the top, flip at the bottom and climb up the west side to the top
f) re-group at the top of the bridge
g) effort #3 – coordinated and fast paceline back to stop sign in front of the Don Edwards ranger station
h) re-group (come back for teammates)
i) effort #4 – solo – no drafting – from Don Edwards to Central/ Cherry
j) re-group (important so that we don’t lose anyone!) and ride back together to Eureka/ Stevenson
Important lessons – strong = longer, weaker = sit on!
