A better warm up = a better race
M55+1/2/3 (combined with the M45+ 1/2/3) (28 in the 35+ and 9 in the 45+)
Team mates West Kurihara and Tim O’Hara
Plenty of quality in the field, with squads from Peets Coffee, Cycles Fanatic and Morgan Stanley in numbers, including Dan Martin, Masters world champ and the NCNCA champ is also there as well.
Starts off nice, but within the lap, the speed is going up. End of lap two and a breakway surges off the front and those guys are motoring. Pack speed is consistently over 27 and on the tail wind legs we are hitting 32. Cool. Several groups form and attempt to bridge, but the Morgan Stans and Peets boyz, who both have a guy up the road sit on everything.
Halfway in and i find myself ON THE FRONT! WTF……heartrate is seeing some decent numbers and the legs are saying that enough is enough, so i swing to the side of the road expecting the pack to roll past me, but they follow my move. Again, WTF. Eventually, when the guy behind me see’s the reversing light come on, he comes by and I can find some shelter. That was about the highlight for me (oh, some doods rubbed wheels, no problems). Last lap and the gallop develops, and seeing as how i was tailgunning, I am not accelerating with them. I do see West and Tim follow the surge, and West comes in 5th in the M55+ group and garners a bottle of vino. Noice.
The really cool part of the day was seeing our group of motivated and talented E5 guys just totally decimate the two races they were in and then they went out and did another couple of hours riding. I see some fantastic results in the future for these guys. And then Chris Gaitos takes the win in the E3 race as well. Every race that had a Team Fremont member in it, we either won or podiumed. Not bad, not bad at all
